Man Claiming to Hack EVMs Faces Complaint Filed by Election Commission.

Mumbai Cyber Police filed an FIR against Syed Shuja for false claims of hacking EVMs by isolating their frequency, following a complaint by Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer. The FIR, registered under the BNS and IT Act.

Mumbai Cyber Police have filed an FIR against Syed Shuja, who claimed he could hack EVMs by isolating their frequency, according to Election Commission (EC) officials.

The Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) lodged the complaint, asserting that Shuja’s claims were false, baseless, and unsubstantiated.

The FIR, registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and IT Act on November 30 at the Dakshin Mumbai Cyber Police Station, followed a video shared on social media where Shuja claimed he could tamper with EVMs in Maharashtra elections.

This is not the first incident involving Shuja; in 2019, the EC directed an FIR against him for making similar allegations.

In a similar case in 2019, the Election Commission directed the filing of an FIR against Syed Shuja in Delhi for false claims, with the Maharashtra CEO’s office noting on X that he is currently hiding in another country.

Delhi and Mumbai police are investigating the matter to identify and apprehend anyone in India connected to such individuals or involved in these malicious activities, an EC official stated.

The EC emphasized that such actions are serious offences, and those involved will face strict consequences. It reiterated that EVMs are standalone, tamper-proof machines that cannot connect to any network, including WiFi or Bluetooth.
